However, choosing the proper leadership can be the difference of success and failure. Many “so called” leaders and gurus, are very helpful in the beginning, but after the sale, you rarely hear back from them. Before selecting a leader to work with, I suggest you question them on how they plan on supporting you once you join.
Find out how they are building their business and make sure that you are willing to do exactly what they are doing. If you don’t want to do what they are doing, then you should find another leader. Having a leader than has extensive marketing skills, (especially online) is invaluable. If you have a leader with limited skills then you will surely struggle, especially if you are new to the industry. There are very specific skill sets that separate the pros from the wannabees. I currently could not ask for a better leader in my Empower Network business.

1. A leaders goal should be larger than those that he/she is mentoring. Your team members need to know that you are planning for the future and also understand that your financial goals coincide with theirs.
2. Leaders are optimistic and focus on the solutions rather than problems.
3. Leaders are responsible and admit when he/she makes a mistake. We are all human and subject to making mistakes. A good leader will simply apologize instead of blaming someone or something else and your team members will admire and respect you even more.
4. Leaders make sound and decisive decisions. Teach what you’ve learned personally and what you’ve been taught by your upline leaders. That’s what they are there for.
5. The Leader always puts his/her team members first. When team members notice a leader looking out for their best interests, they will work harder because they realize that your goal is their success. People honestly don’t care what you know until they know how much you care!
Zig Ziglar says – “If you help enough other people get what they want, you’ll always get what you want.”
6. Leaders are out in the front of the pack setting examples for the team members. A good leader does not just tell others what to do but shows his team how to do it. They will take the lead by setting the right example for the team members. They don’t suggest something that they haven’t proven first in order to use the team members as a guinea pig.
7. Leaders show a commitment to integrity and character. Your team members will have confidence in you as a leader when they see you doing “the right thing”.
8. Leaders strive for excellence in everything. Attitude, appearance, work ethics, and dedication to excellence will help determine your success. Attitude determines Altitude.
9. Leaders are readers and are constantly improving their personal growth and development. Glean from what you read and apply it and then assess the outcome. If you are happy with the results, then recommend the book or article and share your results.
10. Leaders display a high level of persistence and determination. Genuine success takes time to achieve. How much time? As long as it takes!
Empower Network Tips
1. Following someone that isn’t skilled in effective marketing.
The result: You end up chasing friends and family or calling a long list of opportunity seekers.
2. Lack of desire or passion for time and financial freedom.
The result: You will more than likely give up before you reach any level of success. The irony of it is that it’s really not that hard if you do it the right way. The reward of financial freedom greatly outweighs the short learning curve you go through to get the ball rolling. Your “WHY” must be defined. Why are you doing this, and what are you willing to do to make it work? You have to answer that question in order to measure your level of desire and passion.
3. Not having a plan of action or written goals.
The result: You have no guide to monitor your production or work habits. I predict procrastination right around the corner.
4. Very shy and timid or lack of social skills.
The result: Unless you get some personal development and training in order to build up your confidence, you might struggle in this industry with a timid nature. That doesn’t mean you have to have a roar as bold as a lion but you do need to develop good socializing skills. If you don’t enjoy meeting and talking to people, then this probably isn’t the best choice for you. This business is all about developing yourself as a leader and then teaching and mentoring others along the way.
5. Inconsistency
The result: Unstable patterns of success. This business is extremely rewarding, but the first 6 months is referred to as the ramp up period. This is the time when you are ramping up your business to take flight. Imagine a plane going down the runway and halfway down you feel it slow down, a minute later it picks up speed again only to reach the end of the runway and have to slow down and turn around and start over again. You need momentum to get off the ground. Find yourself a true leader and do everything he/she tells you to do and before you know it, you’ll look out your window and see some white puffy clouds. Your business is airborne!
